Visit Tongland Power Station

Tongland Power Station is the largest of the Galloway hydro scheme’s electricity generation plants. The turbine house was built in the 1930s and offers an excellent example of early-modernist architecture applied to an industrial setting. Original features, such as the old control system, offer a glimpse into how the power station worked in the 1930s.

The station’s visitor centre welcomes school groups for tours explaining electricity, the hydro scheme and the environment.

Visits to and tours of Tongland Power Station are suspended and we are not taking bookings for future dates.

This is to reduce the risk of people spreading the Coronavirus and the closure will be reviewed on a weekly basis.

We know this will inconvenience people but as working power station, the safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and visitors is our first priority.
