Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) at Drax
At Drax, we’re working to create a fair, safe, and inclusive place to work, one that truly reflects the communities around us.
We want fairness to show up in every decision, for psychological safety to shape how we lead, and for belonging and access to feel like a natural part of our day-to-day.
DEI is at the heart of how we make Drax a great place to work and how we meet our purpose of enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future.
We are passionate about building trust in the communities and regions where we operate to create a representative and inclusion organisation. We know there’s work to do, to meet our commitments to our colleagues and communities.
“At Drax, we’re working hard to make our company inclusive for all colleagues. I want everyone, no matter where they work or who they are to feel like a valued member on a winning team with a worthwhile mission. This commitment comes from me, from our board, and from our executive committee. There’s still a lot to do, but we are working hard to ensure everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to grow both personally and professionally.”
Will Gardiner, Drax Group CEO

We hold ourselves accountable
We hold ourselves accountable, through targets and measures supporting our commitment to better reflect our local communities.
Although we track much more, our key targets are:

These targets are not just words, how colleagues feel about our culture forms part of how we calculate our annual bonus payments for everyone. And we’re proud to have been making visible progress in all three of these targets over the last three years, but there’s still work to do.
We've got a plan
To make these commitments a reality and build trust within Drax we all have a responsibility to act through our DEI pillars driven by our DEI Team, Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs) and our DEI Policy which is delivered by everyone!

Fairness we can trust
We’re building transparent, inclusive processes and policies so everyone has the chance to grow, develop and progress. We’re working to ensure our decisions are consistent, evidence-based and designed to reduce bias.
Our favourite example: Our FAIR (Fair, Accessible, Inclusive & Representative) panel reviews hiring processes to ensure that the fairest processes has been followed and help hiring managers make better decisions.

Progress we can see
We listen, learn and act. By using data and colleague feedback, we understand where we’re doing well and where we need to improve. We turn insight into action, track progress and hold ourselves accountable.
Our favourite example: We produce regular, transparent overviews of our progress against our targets, available for all colleagues through “Equity Insights”.

Belonging we can feel
We’re creating a great place to work, where everyone feels they belong. We promote Psychological Safety, prevent harm, and bring inclusion into our everyday leadership and teamwork.
Our favourite example: You can find Psychological Safety training and nudges for colleagues at all levels, as well as being embedded into our performance measures.

Barriers we remove
Everyone should be able to work safely, comfortably and confidently. We’re continually improving physical, digital and procedural access to that everyone can contribute and thrive.
Our favourite example: If you need to request hardware or software as a reasonable adjustment, our self service online portal makes the process straightforward. Through it, trained colleagues are on hand to guide you and ensure you receive the support you need.
We work together
Our Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs) are colleague-led networks that help make our workplace fairer, safer and more inclusive for everyone. They bring people together to:
- Share experience and perspectives
- Support each other and act as allies
- Highlight barriers and opportunities
- Help shape better ways of working
CRGs are open to all colleagues through meetings and virtual channels. They work in partnership with senior leaders and our DEI Team to turn insight into action.
You could join:

Through our CRGs we’ve celebrated important cultural events, educated colleagues about the Imposter Phenomenon, changed policy, improved facilities and much more.
We believe in listening to our people and acting on what we hear helps us create a great place to work, for everyone.
We proactively partner with and support organisations driving our DEI goals forward
