Explore a unique ecological setting, see a wealth of wildlife species in their natural environment, and learn about nature and conservation at Drax Power Station

The nature reserve is on Barlow Mound, a site where waste product that couldn’t be recycled from the power station was sent. The area has been reclaimed and transformed into an area of natural beauty.

We’re open to members of the public, and also offer educational visits for primary schools during term times where children can learn about nature, ecology, and sustainability at Skylark and Drax Power Station. We also share the story of electricity generation through interactive models. The Skylark Centre, located on site, is equipped with classroom facilities, there are also toilets and picnic areas.

For further details on school visits and to see examples of our educational resources please contact us.

Walk

As well as being the home to a large number of endangered and rare species of wildlife, the area is farmed and features a number of rest areas and nature walks. So get those walking boots out!
