Tongland Power Station is the largest of the Galloway hydro scheme’s electricity generation plants. The turbine house was built in the 1930s and offers an excellent example of early-modernist architecture applied to an industrial setting. Original features, such as the old control system, offer a glimpse into how the power station worked in the 1930s.

Drax education team is pleased to welcome primary school groups for tours explaining electricity, the hydro scheme and the environment.

Schools can also book a webinar that teaches local primary school children about how the Galloway Hydros produce green electricity and how Drax supports biodiversity in the local area.
