Honouring Commitments. Building Partnerships. Advancing Reconciliation

Strong relationships with Indigenous communities are fundamental to how Drax operates. We recognize and respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and are committed to engaging with communities that support meaningful dialogue, and opportunities for collaboration.

Our approach is informed by Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNHR), the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and ILO Convention 169, which help guide our efforts to advance reconciliation and foster respectful relationships.

Through our ongoing engagement, we seek to understand local priorities, identify areas for partnership and work alongside Indigenous communities to support participation in projects, procurement, employment, and economic development initiatives.

This work is strengthened by our Indigenous Advisory Committee, which provides strategic guidance and Indigenous perspectives that help inform decision-making and advance our approach across the organization.

Our Commitment to Reconciliation

Drax is committed to advancing reconciliation in meaningful partnership with Indigenous Peoples.

Our Reconciliation Report proves an overview of how we embed reconciliation principles into our core values, from governance, partnerships to daily operations. We are taking meaningful steps to ensure our actions are grounded in trust, respect and shared decision-making with Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Advisory Committee

To ensure Indigenous voices remain central to our work, Drax has established an Indigenous Advisory Committee comprised of five leaders and advisors from diverse backgrounds to provide strategic guidance and cultural insight across our organization. The committee offers insights to support informed decision-making, strengthen relationships and helps advance our reconciliation commitments.

Our Approach to Reconciliation

Drax is developing a Reconciliation Action Plan that focuses on building lasting benefits through

Celebrating Culture and History

We are committed to deepening our collective understanding of Indigenous culture through cultural awareness training for all Drax employees. These sessions provide essential knowledge, fostering respect and empathy throughout our organization.

Honouring Land and Territory

Recognizing the land where we operate is a core part of our commitment. Through territorial acknowledgments, we aim to consistently honour Indigenous communities and their stewardship and profound connection to the land.

Supporting Economic Opportunities

Drax is dedicated to creating economic opportunities for Indigenous-owned businesses, ensuring that our collaborations drive economic empowerment. This commitment extends to nurturing talent. In 2025 and 2026, we hired an intern through the BC First Nations Forestry Council Scholarship Program, providing this intern with hands-on experience and mentorship.

Strengthening Community Connections

Engagement with communities is a key to building trust and understanding. By inviting Indigenous leaders to tour our plants and actively participate in community events, we are opening doors to collaboration and dialogue while being transparent neighbours in the communities we work and operate.

Leading with Accountability

We are working towards our Progressive Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) certification through the Canadian Council for Indigenous Businesses (CCIB), demonstrating our dedication to progressive and inclusive practices.

Creating Pathways for Success

Our commitment extends to employment and training opportunities, helping Indigenous individuals build meaningful careers within Drax, while contributing to our shared success.

These actions are designed collaboratively to support Indigenous communities and foster long-term mutually beneficial partnerships.

Our Partnerships

We are building meaningful, long-term partnerships with Indigenous communities grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared growth. Our work is strengthened through our relationships with organizations such as the BC First Nations Forestry Council, the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business, and Indigenous Corporate Training, which help guide our approach to reconciliation, capacity-building, and cultural awareness. Together, we support sustainable economic development, foster inclusive business practices, and ensure Indigenous perspectives and knowledge are reflected in everything we do.
