Cruachan Power Station is located on the shores of Loch Awe in the Scottish Highlands, between Glasgow and Oban. The huge turbine hall is located 1 km within the hollowed-out mountain of Ben Cruachan.
The visitor centre includes an interactive exhibition for children, café and gift shop, as well as free parking. Guided tours of the pumped storage power station are available through the Cruachan website with visitors and school groups welcomed between February and December. There are a variety of hiking options from the visitor centre to the dam and Ben Cruachan’s summit.
Cruachan Visitor Centre has now closed for its annual maintenance period. The Visitor Centre is due to open on Monday 31st January 2022. We are not operating guided tours into the power station, we hope to resume these in February 2022.
The suspension of public tours is to reduce the risk to business-critical areas of our operation. Please check our website for the latest information and virtual tour.
