Tongland Power Station is the largest of the Galloway hydro scheme’s electricity generation plants. The turbine house was built in the 1930s and offers an excellent example of early-modernist architecture applied to an industrial setting. Original features, such as the old control system, offer a glimpse into how the power station worked in the 1930s.

The station’s visitor centre welcomes school groups for tours explaining electricity, the hydro scheme and the environment.

Public tours of and visits to Tongland Power Station are temporarily suspended.

The suspension is to reduce the risk to business-critical areas of our operation.

We will look to review re-opening the visitor centre in line with the Scottish Government’s future guidelines, but we cannot guarantee this at the present time. Please check our website for the latest information.
